Oxford Road Residents Association

Community petition: stop the rat running

Oxford Road is increasingly being used as a rat run to the A14, bringing more vehicles, more risk, and more disruption to our daily lives.

Why this matters

Traffic pressures are only set to rise with:

  • Phase Two of the Eddington development and Darwin Green
  • Proposed development of fields off Storey's Way

Without action, Oxford Road risks becoming a major through-route rather than the residential street we value.

What we're doing

We have submitted a petition to the council to formally recognise the problem. With your support, we far exceeded the minimum of 50 signatures needed. The petition is now closed and has been handed to the council.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who signed the petition and shared it with neighbours, friends, and family. The petition is now closed, but we're continuing to push for solutions with the council. We'll keep you updated on our progress.

What's next

No final decision has been made, but one option being considered is Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) at key points, which would:

  • Allow access for residents
  • Discourage non-local through traffic
  • Improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and school children

Why your support mattered

Thank you for adding your name if you share any of these concerns:

  • Safety for you and your family
  • Children travelling to school
  • Noise and air pollution
  • Increasing traffic levels
  • The long-term impact on our community
