Community Petition: Stop the Rat Running
We need your support to tackle the growing problem of traffic on Oxford Road. Increasingly, our street is being used as a rat run to the A14, bringing more vehicles, more risk, and more disruption to our daily lives.
Why This Matters
Traffic pressures are only set to rise with:
- Phase Two of the Eddington development and Darwin Green
- Proposed development of fields off Storey's Way
Without action, Oxford Road risks becoming a major through-route rather than the residential street we value.
What We're Doing
We have submitted a petition to the council to formally recognise the problem. We need a minimum of 50 signatures — this is the first step toward getting the issue acknowledged and addressed.
Possible Solutions
No final decision has been made, but one option being considered is Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) at key points, which would:
- Allow access for residents
- Discourage non-local through traffic
- Improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and school children
Why Your Support Matters
If you are concerned about any of the following, please add your name:
- Safety for you and your family
- Children travelling to school
- Noise and air pollution
- Increasing traffic levels
- The long-term impact on our community
